In the beginning...

This is my on-line doTERRA journal.  It's a place where I can record my thoughts and experiences and research and ideas.  It's for the good experiences and the flops.  And probably plenty of rambling on my part.

I'll start with my "story," thus far.  Many months ago, probably at least 6-9 months ago, I first heard about doTERRA and essential oils.  I noticed a few friends on Facebook who were starting their "business" or inviting me to their "parties" (even though I lived far away) or mentioning EOs.  (EO= essential oils)  Most of them I shrugged off, not giving it another thought- those were the invites to parties back in Spokane AFTER I had moved away- I could tell I was invited because they invited EVERYONE from their contacts.  Annoying.  I was a little intrigued because a couple of the people were people that I admired and respected, and I knew that they wouldn't waste their time on something like this unless there was something to it.  But I still didn't want to get involved.  I am FAR from an "organic guru."  I don't live THAT kind of lifestyle.  So I stayed away from their EO messages.

Then, a friend here had a "party."  So I went to check it out.  I had no intention of getting involved, but I wanted to see what it was all about.  I was surprised that there were only a couple of people there.  I listened to the "shpeel" (that's a very technical word for speech).  It was the whole "makeover your medicine cabinet" party.  I was fascinted with their answers to my main concerns.  My knee pain= Deep Blue rub.  I tried the Deep Blue lotion on one knee, and I felt like I could run a marathon on that one leg!  But, holy cow, I'm not paying fifty bucks for lotion.  Ethan's tummy aches= peppermint.  (But he hates mint- I'm sure he wouldn't go for that).  And although I was interested, I was turned off from the whole sales presentation part of it.  I smelled my free orange EO, but wasn't wowed.  I didn't notice anything at all with it. It sounded pretty much too good to be true, and it sounded expensive.  I was almost ready to try at least SOMETHING, but then they ended by talking about their vitamins.  Seventy bucks for a month's worth of vitamins- you lost me there.  I came home, told my husband about it, and said those people are crazy!

Time passed by.  I realized that Jacob's on and off cough for the past YEAR was just not going away.  I would bet money it's caused by the city of Altus.  A nicer way to say that is allergies, but honestly I think this town is a bit toxic.  (I'm an admitted water snob; we got a reverse osmosis water filter system put in just so I could handle the water here.  But that's another story.)  So Jacob, my five year old, has a cough almost every single night.  And I was giving him children's cough medicine almost every other night for MANY nights.  And I thought to myself, "There HAS to be a better way to help him!  This much cough medicine CAN'T be good for him."  So I contacted my friend who hosted the party I went to, and she gave me a sample of Breathe.  It was this cute, small vial.  I applied it to Jacob's feet before he went to bed, and NO MORE COUGHING.  I applied the Breathe again the next few nights, and STILL NO COUGH.  And it was HEAVENLY!  It was actually a relief that it worked!  It was a natural solution to a recurring problem.  And IT WORKED!  It worked so well that Jacob ASKS for his "special medicine" each night.  And that got me hooked.

Long story short, I signed up as an IPC and started with the Family Physician kit.  It's been the perfect introduction to me.  And it has allowed me to start this essential oils journey as slowly and carefully as I've wanted.  That was back in November.  I've had some great successes, and I've had some oils that did absolutely nothing for me.  And since this is my journal, I'll try to document it all.  I'm still not 100% behind everything.  I really am not a fan of being a part of a pyramid company where you have to go through a sales rep to get your product.  And I have no desire to make this into a big business or any kind of business.  But I feel like I'm really  getting into the oils that HAVE helped me, and I'm happy to share my limited knowledge with other people.

So that's my basic story.  Let's see where this journey takes me.
